Needed the Moon
Needed the Moon
The darkness has engulfed me
The air has escaped my lungs
There is no light to set me free
Because the night is forever young
You are stuck in the bright day
As you are the glowing sun
You have not helped me in any way
Because as night falls the sun runs
I needed you to be the moon
As you would light my night
But you chose to glow for her afternoon
And leave when the darkness takes flight
You radiate from seven to five
And brightly blossom for her day
I wonder how I’m supposed to survive
When after five you go away
I am trapped in the dark
With not even a star in sight
You were supposed to be my spark
But hold on to her day oh so tight
I needed you to be the moon
However, she needed you to be the sun
So I’ll swim in the dark-watered lagoon
Because you think the dark is something to outrun
You think the light is something to hold
And the dark is something to let go
But you’ll realize the light isn’t so gold
And the dark is the one you’ve always known
However, I can’t wait for that realization to arise
Like you begin to at dawn
Because the moon is a prize
And you are not one
I don’t need you to be the moon
Because I am not a second choice
I’ve become my own moon
And in the night I’ll ignite my voice
